With the first LIBS conference held in Pisa 2000, and previous meetings in Orlando, Malaga, and Montreal, the LIBS 2008 in Berlin, Adlershof, is the fifth conference along the tradition of the biennial international scientific conferences devoted to the field of LIBS.
The LIBS 2008 scientific program will comprise plenary lectures and submitted oral contributions as well as poster contributions to which a strong attention will be given as well. The symposium language is English. The meeting will be held at science campus Adlershof, Berlin.

A preliminary short course program will offer the opportunity to learn about recent scientific and technological developments in LIBS through well known experts in the field. In conjunction with LIBS 2006, a workshop will be held on "Spectroscopy for Security Applications”.

A proficiency test, the Berlin LIBS 2008 Contest, will be organized in summer 2008 by BAM to present results of quantitative LIBS performance during the conference.
Vendors will be provided a forum to display new nstrumentation, i.e. new lasers, optoelectronics, detectors, complete LIBS systems, software and related subjects. Make sure to register early enough for participation due to limited amount of samples available.
Papers associated with the LIBS 2008 conference will be published after regular peer-reviewing process in a special issue of Spectrochimica Acta Part B Atomic Spectroscopy. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 30 November 2008. For author guidelines and manuscript submission see SAB homepage.
